Demoing some songs right now. I cannot believe how CUBE we are! Haven’t been this excited about songs in a very long time. Pictures from our rehearsal den / studio coming soon.
Okay, so what a week / weekend. Bamboozle was like warped tour times a million. I think i’m going to re-evaluate my style completely. I thought no one else really had style as wild as mine in this scene. Last time I checked in it was all Black like afi hahaha. I’m at a loss for what to wear. I guess i can just wear all my clothes still, but the feeling of “i’m so wild no one else would dare try this” is 1000% gone. Tragic! Besides all the fun fashion at bamboozle, there was plenty of pop punk and screamo to go around for days. People seemed to like it a lot. Lindsay’s sister Natalie was in town with her friends Mark and Lindsay (there was 2 of them). They LOVE pop punk! I got to watch New Found Glories, The Starting Lines, and The Paramores just to name a few. Lindsay Logan rode the Kamikaze ride with my brother Ryans GF, Krista. We wussed out, I get sick when I spin around in a circle more than twice. It was my first time meeting her and was stoked to see my brother happy. I ended up rushing the gang out before The Paramores were finished because I had a DJ set to get to with my friend Trey D. I felt bad to take them away from one of their fav’s but it was tine for techno. It was a very interesting event. We started playing music after the band Halos had finished their set. Apparently, there were A lot of noise complaints so when we got up there to pump up the jams, we were asked to turn it way down… It was kind of a bummer but honestly everyone was kinda tired and burnt out anyways from the boozle and generally speaking, the kids that come from bamboozle don’t want to hear electro, SO! I literally saved the last dance going directly from Timbaland - Miscommunication ( bloody beatroots remix) to SAVES THE DAY - YOU VANDAL! I grabbed the mic and sang along. Everyone loved life for a moment and we packed up and left.
The next day I had to get up early to prep for our Finch set at Bamboozle. Merch load in was at 10 am and I didn’t get much sleep at all the night before so getting there was such a bum trip. Pretty much waited for something sweet to happen all day after that which was at 5 when we got to play. The show went decent I suppose. Daniel and Grizz’s shit both went out pretty much at the same time for a few songs so it was just Nate, Drew, and I up there jamming. I’m just glad everything went well for our new song… LOVE THAT FREEEGEN SONG! BABAY OWW! After we played feeling somewhat defeated by technical difficulties we all went home to get some rest and play our show at the roxy. Got up early yet again feeling slightly more rested on monday morning to get over to a rehearsal space in hollyweird. We practiced the Helmet songs we knew and some Finch songs that we hadn’t practiced in a while. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we’ve been practicing Helmet songs because Page Hamilton of Helmet was going to play with us at the show. Pretty much an insane dream for most of us finches. We headed to sound check to jam with Page. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable enough with the songs and he seemed bummed. So they checked with out me. I set up our merch and felt kinda like a dick. So the night went on, we played our first half of the set and were feeling great coming up to our Helmet portion. I introduced Page and left to hang with some friends in the crowd. By the time they got to Milquetoast Page called me out and demanded that I come and play. I felt like I was going to fuck up so bad and embarrass all the dudes in my band and his band but I think I did okay, at least it was super fun. We finished the rest of our set and felt great to have such a good time with out tech diffs. One of the best Finch shows in a while i’d say. My friends in Tera Melos made this video. It’s one of my favorite songs and this video is groundbreaking. Enjoy
just got back from the party aforementioned in previous post. super fun. closed the techno set out with saves the days you vandal… definitely the high light of the eve. to be expected at a pop punk after party i suppose. i did grabbed a mic and sang along, it was fun. kinda weird. i have yet to dj a place that its really ” well received “. i need to play ibiza hahahaha. fudge it. bamboozle tomorrow. should be fun and filled with funny sunglasses and people that look the same as everyone else. weeeeeeeee!
So check this out. This is a one of the rough sketches or demo of what is now known as Chinese Organ Thieves. This version is about 5 years old. This song has been creatively haunting me for that long. Its not that its the more complicated song in the world but I just wanted it to be perfect. I think with finch its definitely reached its potential. I can’t wait to record the finch version over… We were planning on releasing it like right after we recorded it but it was so rushed and shitty sounding that we didn’t feel right about posting it. Keep in mind, THIS IS NOT A FINCH DEMO. It’s my demo from a long time ago. Just me and my drum machine haha. I find it to be a neat fossil.
I’ve decided that i’m going to stream more of these old demos. I have so many I might as well share.
UPDATE
The second demo clip i’ve added is also in COT. It sounds kinda totally diff. now but the chords are the same. This was one of my newer ideas but had never thought of combining with scissors until we were working out organ thieves. I really really liked the groove of this idea but i feel like it serves COT in its diff. groove well too. I can’t imagine any finch fans liking it with the vibe it has now which is kinda sad but whatever it twas gazillionaire before. Rock music is ceeewl too. I hope you like!
i found my moms glasses then i put them on, then i looked in the mirror and said hey what the heck, aren’t you that guy from motio… and then i stopped and i says to my self, i says, HAY! you’re talkin to you! what in the heck!
Had a great time with Belle this weekend. We went down to San Diego to have a mini vacation… I never thought of taking a VayKay to a place so close to my home but it was flantastic. Went to the zoo for the first time in ages and saw some flanimals whist drinking beer, safaris are shqweeeed and so fun. We stayed at this place called the W downtown and saw the movie juno. It was pretty good. I didn’t like how the character juno acted like janine garofalo the entire time. We also ordered dinner to the room and we feasted on kobe beef burgers, classy. After our zoo trip we went to one of my favorite haunts, Shakespeare’s off washington near old town. Drank some delicious beverages and ate some local cuisine, shep pie. and salty chips and vinegar. YUM.
p.s. yes i’m wearing a finch shirt… thats what people in cool metal bands like metallica do
